Whether you’re having a birthday party for the kids or trying desperately to get them to stop fighting about toppings on their pizza, sometimes homemade individual pizzas are the way to go rather than one, big, giant pizza.

Now, this recipe will make one whole pizza if you want – you just wouldn’t separate out the dough.

But in the photos, you’ll see that we went for the individual pizza option, which makes nice thin crusts that are sturdy and delicious.

And of course you can call Pizza Hut and get a pizza delivered to your door in minutes, which is not something that I’m above doing, but when you’ve got a bit of extra time and really want to know where your ingredients are from, homemade pizza is always the way to go.

How to Make Homemade Individual Pizzas

Homemade pizza comes together quickly once you have the starting ingredients, and it’s easy enough for the little ones to help with!

If you have a pizza stone to use (I love this one), put the stone in the oven at 400F for at least 30 minutes before starting.

Separate your dough into smaller chunks so everyone has their own individual portions.

Put the bases into the oven at 400F, either on the pre-heated pizza stone (make sure to flour first so the dough doesn’t stick) or on a baking tray which I’ll talk about below.

Bake for about 10 minutes, until the bases have turned golden in places.

What if I Don’t Have a Pizza Stone?

Not everyone has a pizza stone laying around, so if you don’t, that’s fine!

Instead, roll your pizza into a more rectangular shape and put parchment paper down on a baking tray.

Cook on the baking tray and you’ll still get a delicious finished product.

Can I Use Fresh Mozzarella?

Yes, if you have mozzarella that has come in a ball rather than grated, you can absolutely use it as a topping.

The reason I prefer using grated mozzarella is because it tends to melt more evenly and have less liquid that is then released onto the pizza.

However, you can do your best to stop that happening by opening the mozzarella a few hours prior to making the pizza, breaking it apart into small chunks and trying to squash as much water out of those chunks using paper towels as possible.

Leave them to sit on paper towels to absorb excess moisture for an hour or so before putting on the pizza.

How to Cut Homemade Pizzas

If you’ve got a pizza cutter like this at home, that’s the easiest way, but we don’t always have that!

The next easiest option is a pair of kitchen scissors.

Hold onto the edge of the pizza and cut it up with the scissors – takes a little longer, but works just as well.

Thirdly, you can always go in with a regular knife and do a lot of sawing motions to cut.

Use a fork to hold the pizza in place while you cut, and expect some lines to be jagged – it’s okay, it all tastes the same!

How to Store

It’s easiest to just make the amount of pizza you want to eat, which is why the individual portions are so great.

But if you have extras, you can store it in the fridge for up to 2 days, or cover the pizza in saran wrap or put in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.

What to Serve with Homemade Pizza

There are so many things you can serve with homemade pizza including fresh garlic bread, these delicious rutabaga fries, a salad like this bell pepper and cucumber salad, or just load up on tons of extra toppings so no one goes hungry.

Use this homemade pizza recipe to make your own pizza party at night at home with no extra preservatives!

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Additional Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • breadmaker pizza dough
  • 1 batch of homemade pizza sauce
  • 1-2 bags grated mozzarella cheese
  • any toppings you prefer

Instructions

  1. Separate your dough into smaller chunks so everyone has their own individual portions. We like to separate into 8, but you can make bigger pizzas by separating the dough into only 4 sections.
  2. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface, not thick enough that you can see through the dough to the stone, but thicker than you think you should!
  3. Pinch the sides in to make the edges of the crust.
  4. Put the bases into the oven at 400F, either on the pre-heated pizza stone or on a baking tray which I'll talk about below.
  5. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the bases have turned golden in places.
  6. Remove from oven, top with homemade pizza sauce.
  7. Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese.
  8. Add any toppings.
  9. Put back in the oven for about 7-10 minutes, or until cheese is melted to your satisfaction!

Notes

1. If you don't have a pizza stone, you can use a baking tray covered in parchment paper.

2. To use fresh mozzarella, cut it up and dry it out with paper towels about an hour before using on the pizza so you don't get excess liquid.
